heres a tip to remove the allen bolt

before removing the fork legs from the bike(gl1500)

what i did was insert a long 12" #2 philips screwdriver into the axle hole opposite the fork youre removing the bolt from, through the pinch bolt holes to hold the fork leg youre removing the allen bolt to keep it steady.

when you apply force on the bolt you can use both hands on the ratchet, keeping it steady to break the bolt free

you have to turn the fork leg youre removing the bolt from to line up with the long screwdriver you insert through the axle of the opposite fork for this to work.

also this will work BEFORE removing the springs from the fork tubes to keep pressure on the damper rod that the bolt threads into.

worked flawlessly!

Thanks. Another way is to push a brush handle or metal rod down inside the fork and press hard. That stops the the inside spinning while you undo the Allen bolt.

i took the cap bolts off and the springs out after breaking the bottom fork bolts loose.

used the spring tension to hold the insides in place:bow:
