I check the Gold Wings for sale section on eBay most every day. Keep them in order of nearest 1st, and so on. Yesterday I saw a new posting for a 2005 Gold Wing with only 12K miles and........$2,300. "Scam? I said immediately, but thought I would play along for a while to see what happened. Bike was in Sioux Falls South Dakota, maybe 80 miles from here. I asked if I could inspect the bike. An hour latter the new ad was gone. Next day I get a E Mail from a woman claiming it was her sons bike, and he died of cancer. She just wanted it out of her sight. She had already crated it up, and shipping was even "Free".Just mail the money to her lawyer, and he would hold the money for 5 days. Then, the bike would be shipped. I wrote back, "No way. I want to see it first, along with the title".
Now 12 hours after I saw the ad the bike is in Oregon. Still crated up, of coarse. I wrote back saying I would look for a bike close to home I could inspect closely.
Some people will try anything.

That's a pretty standard eBay scam. I used to answer some of them and string them along just for my amusement.

you see a lot more of them on Craigslist. If you use the global craigslist search tools like SearchTempest you often see the same bullshit "price too good to be true" ad in several different cities.

It's always a bike that is unavailable for inspection "but don't worry because if you don't like it I'll pay to ship it back" . usually the sellers father, son, wife, daughter, was killed in military service but there are other variations.

Sometimes I will string along such scammers for a while just to waste their time and then close with an email asking them how it feels to look in the mirror and see a piece of sh!t thief.

thieves suck and these scammers are very lame. only someone very very new to the internet and not very smart to boot would ever be taken in by a $!0,000 bike for $2000.

E-Bay or Craigs list?????...Some times you can find an item for cheap, and its great when you get it no damages etc, exactly what you wanted...But then there are those "Top Rated Sellers" who will rip you off...

When I was looking for a Wing, the ones on this forum were either more than my budget could do, or too far away?? So I looked at several different bikes on both e-bay and craigs, found a "breaker" in Beaumont, Texas that had several nice looking Bikes for sale..Even had two 1500's for sale cheap??? Advertised "Minor Damages"...

On a cold drizzly day we drove that almosrt 100 miles to look at those Wings...Get there and "Minor Damages" was fairings busted off, one had a valve cover torn open, leaking oil??? the other one the fairing did have minor damages, but both saddle bags and trunk were busted????

Just the night before I looked at this forum, and there were two 1500's for sale at half the "Cheap" price they wanted?????..Yeah buyer beware!!!

99.9 percent of them are scams but I remember a member here in the past year or so getting a super great deal from craigslist on a trike I believe and I'm thinking it was in Michigan ? But them are very few and far between.

Today I see on eBay there were 3 Gold Wing trikes with identical miles, price, and looks. One in Des Moines, one in Omaha, and one in Sioux Falls. 21K miles, and $2090.00. I started out by saying I was homeless, no address, but I would like to look at the bike. Would pay for it with $100 dollar bills as soon as I got the title, and trike. The ad went away immedately.

Ask for their phone number - that's one thing scammers won't give out...:)

I've been looking on ebay for a final drive but unlike here there are a lot of dealers selling parts and they do not seem to be to knowledgeable of what they have and what it fits or condition according to what they say about it ..so I'm a little hesitant to bite ..unlike buying from this forum
