When I bought my 1100, the guage cluster housing was broken and zip tied together. It worked, but looked terrible. I bought a unit on ebay, and switched it out.
At that point the gas guage and temp guage were no longer working. I found a blown fuse. I left is alone for awhile, trying to reason out what was amiss...
Today I waded in, and decided to start with changing out the 7v regulator with the one that was on the bike with the old guages. That was the culprit! Yeehaw! I love it when something goes simply!
As it turns out, I also got my neutral lite back. It never worked, except for one time when I was test driving the bike. It was on, that time, through all 5 gears. It seems to be back... And, the rear suspension warning lite seems to be alive again!
So, with this, my 80' is back to having everything working on it. There are a few little things, like a slight leak on the right side that drips just a tad of oil on my right foot. I have changed the valve cover bolt rubbers, and will change the seals under the covers soon.
I also plan on changing the o-rings on the intake manifolds before the Mosquito roundup.
Shes still in need of some cosmetic stuff, but its nice to have all my guages again.
