Whats a pre coil, i never heard of one, boost coils on a merlin yes

Mc,do you mean the ignition modules?if so,they are behind the timing belt covers around the crank pulley.

I think he is asking about the pulse generators. On the '84 they are on the back of the engine. 85 and on they are under the timing belt covers. They are the two little black dudes next to the crank pully. You can test them by pulling the PG coupler. It is located under the left side cover. the one with the white/yellow wires are for cylinders 1&2 and the blue/white are for cylinders 3&4. The book says they should measure 1200 +/- 100 Ohms between the white-yellow or white-blue.

My understanding is if one pulse generator goes, neither will work a
nd bike won't start so best to replace both. amiright?

Hey Coyote Kid, is that pic a Hawk or Super Hawk? (CB72, or 77?)

If 1 goes it won't run at all, if the other goes it will run on 2 cylinders, not sure which is which. doesn't really matter.
