The last time I had my tires changed at the Honda dealer and asking why they didn't change the valve stems I was told there was no need as the stem doesn't bend like in a car rim.

The rear stem failed about six months later.

I was later at the Yamaha dealer and asked about their policy on changing stems with tires and was told that they use to ask but gave up as no one would pay the extra couple of dollars for a new stem.:wtf:

So it pays to ask for new stems every time you have someone else change a tire for you.

His statement was the tire and the stem were replaced 300 miles ago.
The statement in the original post was
I had the bike totally checked out by a reputable bike mechanic who mounted a new front tire.
Then
and the tire & stem had less than 300 miles on them.
Together that suggests that he assumed the stem was changed but as you say we'll not know until he talks to his "reputable bike mechanic" and reports back here.
