I sold my VTX 1300 and bought a 96 GW 1500SE. My wife and I took our first ride last week-end. I had the bike totally checked out by a reputable bike mechanic who mounted a new front tire. 70 miles from home, on I-44 Saturday night at 9:30 pm I began hearing a hum and feeling a slight vibration. We pulled off and found the front tire very low. I was about 2 miles from a TA truck stop so I slowly limped on in, 10 mph or less. Naturally, they would not touch a MC tire. I found the valve stem broken, which is totally unexplainable to me, since I had not hit anything and the tire & stem had less than 300 miles on them.
The chase... how can I know that the sidewall of my tire has not been compromised? It was not hot to the touch when I stopped. However I do not want a nagging suspicion of the integrity of the tire as I am taking curves at 60 mph with my wife behind me.
What could cause a valve stem to break?
