When did they start using a V-twin? What's new about their chassis? The only new technology they can show is an electronic throttle.

How many clams would you have to put down for their top of the line Harley?
It's just advertising blurb really, some folk like the stripped down naked bike face in the wind lifestyle, lived it myself for thirty odd years or so, but I have seen the error of my ways and now enjoy the luxury and comfort of a full fairing. I no longer have to pack my tools and gear in plastic bags and tied down with elastics to keep rust and dust at bay and can arrive dry and in comfort at my destination!
How many clams would you have to put down for their top of the line Harley?

I also notice that the "competitors" cruise control box has a big orange HARLEY decal on it. That IS what they used until the drive-by-wire setup came along. Too bad they can't admit that it was another improvement instead of lies.

I do appreciate how they work to "hide" the electronics. For their market segment, it keeps the bike really clean.
I will say the throttle-signal has some glitches. I rented a Harley while in Chicago and that was problematic.
It seriously affected the safety of the bike, as idle jumped around between dead and 2,300 RPM. They explained it was "A glitch". No better explanation:baffled:.

Oh yes indeed which is more reliable two cables operating the throttle body or carburetor or a throttle position sensor, a bunch of wires and connectors and a motor to drive the throttle body? Yeah, Harley has a better idea.:cheeky1::cheeky1::cheeky1::cheeky1:

It's funny how we all call the different bike brands names. Honda is no exception. I would buy a Harley because i like the looks,the sound, and the feel when riding them. The Honda is the same to me except minus the vibration. When I sold the 1200 I looked at all kinds of bikes and really liked the Harley that I saw in the showroom in Halifax, Nova Scotia. My wife usually found my 1800 in Wisconsin USA and the price was great so I bought it. Glad I did too. All the bikes half a certain caracter that pleases someone and not others. Pros and cons will drive you nuts. Clam Digger?:dude:Tony:waving:

Forgive my naivete but just what is meant by "clam digger?" Should I be offended? I considered the term, perhaps not in this context, as a pejorative or derogatory slap synonymous with: *******, rube, hillbilly, hick, etc. Is this what I am to assume of those who mount a goldwing?
I struggle with that understanding as my mind wanders back-and-fort picturing, variously, a stereotypical group of Harley riders as compared to a typical group of 'Wing'ers. Please, friends, help me understand!

Tried to watch the link, but unfortunately the advert jumped about uncontrolabley like their bikes.
I did catch the reference to the electonic sensor doing the throttle operation as compared to the simple two cable system on a Wing. Mmmm... that sure is gonna get expensive when it goes wrong. I am happy to stick with the Wings with all those disgusting wires and cables hanging out all over, spoiling the esthetics.
I am guessing it didn't get any better later in the ad???? :cheeky1::cheeky1::cheeky1:

I watched it again more carefully this time. I don't think they were referring to the Goldwing as a clam digger. I think he was referring to the wiring harness in his hands. It looked like it was in a plastic frame that flared out on the end, (possibly like a shovel?). His words were: "This clam digger, this is something that everyone elsedoes not do,'cus were not able to do with wrappings and things like that..."
So the way I interpret it,he was calling his wiring harness aclam digger and saying thatno one else has it. That they have to go the extra mile to be able to keep the bike clean, and everyone else justwraps their wiring harnesses in tape.
Regarding the throttle cables, or lackthereof, Ipersonally don't like it. I am afraid of fly by wire systems, because when there is a failure, and sooner or later there will be, can youguarantee that it will fail inthe "safe" direction? That being said, there are plenty ofhigh tech electronics in todays cars, as well as on the Goldwing. While we are at it, why don't we get rid of the hydraulic lines on the brakes.... We can make an electronic brake position sensor and have it control a brake servo motor at the wheels.
Seriously, I have seen first handtoo many bugs in too many electronic componentsto trust fly by wire technology in a primary control system.

In an open bike design like the Harley, if they are going to put lots of options in the bike, they need to make the components small so that they can hide them. The Harley doesn't have the shelters or the large faring that the Goldwing has. Honda has the spaceto use a big box for cruise control, Harley doesn't.

I rode Harleys most of my 40+ years of riding & rebuilt more engines than I can remember.
Several years ago, I decided to upgrade to some comfort for longer rides with less maintenance [especially for wife].
I am very happy with my bike, whatever others choose to call it.
