So I cruised with my friends who ride Harleys over to the Harley store. Upon entering is when it started, they start following you around trying to help you or sell you something. First I looked at the Fat Bob 114 nice bike, I might add. liked the look but NO I dont need a saleman to run the numbers for me!!! So I get away from the bikes go to gloves and stuff, everything says Harley no wonder they are in the shape they are narrow market on gloves and shirts! Finally I was pretty well done being escorted and this guy asked if he could help me for like the 10th time! I said yea, you can how about you show me the Honda section. He said they didnt have one, I said well do they take Hondas in for trade he said yea they do and I said well where are they. Then he said they dont sell them they wholesale them to there other store. I told him well I guess you cant help me then since everything in this place says Harley no wonder you cant sell any thing its all trademarked Harley and twice as much as regular items. I did get a free hamburger and a FUFU coffee though! I went outside finally peace, I thought NOT!!! Not 10 foot out the door through the lot with bikes in it, the ole can i help you! So I gave in. I asked about the 114 Fat Bob oh yea right here, wanna ride it, sure I said so I rode it, finally peace for 20 minutes when I get back its the ole run the numbers? Told them no, didnt really like it. I did like it actually but would get a Honda Fury before a Fat Bob, I wouldnt pay 22K for a sport bike. My friends said I was not allowed to come to harley with them any more as they laughed, said i was a$$h$le. I told them thanks thats a compliment, I dont like the Hard sale of that store. I have to admit it was awesome to mess with the sales folks, my other friend who rides a Victory said he had the best day of his life laughing at me messing with the sale folks! I love all bikes really Harleys Victorys Honda even a few yamahas and older Kawaski's but geez why the hard sale!0:)

" wouldn't pay 22K for a sport bike "
you haven't ridden a sport bike in a long while if you think a fat bob is a sport bike

Yea, today was my friends last free service. I rode a new street rod, from like 2016. It hadn't sold, now I know why though I felt so out of balance. Lots of pretty bikes but I like my Goldwing. Its plenty fast, if I want fun fast I'll ride my KZ1000. There paid for too.

street roid! you can make a harley fast and lots of fun and still get 50 mpg....but the dealer cant. hd got in bed with the epa years ago to shut out the aftermarket, (greed). backfired on them. then they lied big time and violated federal law by claiming you couldnt modoify a harley without using hd parts.

i loved taking a customer into the hd showroom and tossing a copy of maggneson moss waranty act on the counter and talking really loud in front of their customers. "you lied to my customer. you violated federal law. would you like to tell these nice folks how they will void warranty by modifying their bikes with non-harley parts?"

now they can only offer stage 1 or 2 download tunes which still hve really skewed timing tables and richen the mix across the board. they cant build a real motor because they have to use hd junk so they can offer hd warranty.

problem is... about 90 percent of their customers still whip outthe credit card to add noise and chrome and totally screw up their bike.

Very true, even to change the pipes you have to go in and reset the tuner, then an air cleaner, for it again. Then when its warranty is up then raise the rev, and do another tune. I have done a few since I bought the program, if they have a interface.

pipes , yes. air cleaner , no.

a real exhaust system, with a flowing air cleaner will yield very little power. the choke is still the cams and heads.

example, the 2004 cvo screaming eagle 103 only produced 80 lb tq and 70 hp. time after time . thats only 10 lb tq and about 6 hp over a 88 inch stone stock.

Yea but if you go into a Honda dealer it's hard to find anyone to help you, and if you can find someone they know very little if anything about Gold Wings or most any other bikes they sell unless it is off road stuff. and how many times have people posted about how hard it is to find any riding clothes with HONDA on it. So Harley is smart to sell branded gear. They probably make more money selling gear than selling motorcycles. Look around next time your on the road, how many HD dealers do you see compared to Honda dealers and what do you see at the dealers? HDS dealers have 10 X more bikes on the floor to pick from that Honda dealers.

They must be doing something right
Harley-Davidson accounted for 29.3% of all new motorcycle sales in the U.S. in 2015, followed by

Honda Motors at 14%, and

Yamaha at 13%.

Polaris Industries (NYSE:pII) represented just 4.4% of total sales that year with its Indian and Victory brands. Yet Harley reported at the end of January, and 2016 U.S. sales fell 3.9% and were down globally 1.6%. Polaris, on the other hand, said its sales were up 1%, with Indian Motorcycle enjoying mid-20% growth.

I used to ride a 2000 BMW R1100RT .. I could out handle the japanese sport bikes I rode with. In part because the ABS brakes gave me the confidence to brake later/harder than they would before a turn. It was a lot of fun when we'd stop for a coffee and i'd get the comments that i'm nuts.

.. well maybe I am nuts, totally beside the point though !
