[align=left]Have you ever thought about comparing our insurance costs . I just finished my 78 GL1000 restoration and for a mere 338.00 per year with 500.00 deductible they will fully insure for depreciated value... No comprehensive ..Only Liability is 212.00 PY.. If I feel my restored bike is worth more than that I can supply an appraisal and then for more money they will insure to that value. I have no tickets or claims in twenty years so thats not an issue. Is this price good or not ?,, Not sure... I already have a XR650L insured full w/comp 225.00 per year..with them cant ride two at a time and am the only rider.

About 80 posts on this insurance survey: http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/forum4/21821.html and you won't beat the price we pay in Manitoba. I just registered the '87 Aspy today and the total was $2,135.00. But they gave me a 25% discount because I'm a good driver. Whoopee!! Only $1,641.00 now! And that's prorated over 5 months so if you hand in the plates at the end of September you get nothing back. And that's not for any fancy insurance. I've got $500 collision deductible, $2,000,000 liability and $200 deductible on comprehensive (fire, theft, vandalism). Though I don't know who in their right mind would want to steal it. Sucks for a bike I paid $3000 for in the first place.

We had a thread on this a week or two ago, and you really have to be sure you are comparing apples to apples.

Same credit history, same bike, same value, same exact coverages, and you must both be in the same ZIPCODE.

that last one will get you every time.

I found the other thread

What Insurance Company do you use?

I think in this day and age, a large percentage of what you pay for insurance is based on your credit!! Insurance idiots think if you have "excellent" credit you obviously are an "excellent" motorcycle rider! Conversely, if you have poor credit, you are obviously a suicidal maniac hell bent on death at the wheel.................so to speak!!

I think your problem is the $2,000,000 Liability. Drp that a considerable ammount.

New Jersey $2500,$5000 is $175 including roadside assistance registration on the other hand is $35 every 6 months

I pay $125 per year with Allstate for the same coverage on my 2008 GL1800in Rockford, IL area. My 2003 1100 Shadow is $102.

When comparing rates you have to take in account the area. Big cities and their burbsare much higher. Big cities are different too. I lived in Boston for 6 months and my car insurance was twice the Chicago rate in 1968.

Driving record and age isusually a factor too.

You're right. I checked it out and a drop to the minimum liability ($200,000) drops the premium to $2,100.00. As a matter of fact, the $2,100 figure is the minimum amount with minimum level of coverage in all categories. Manitoba is just run by agovernment that's out to eliminate 2-wheeled motorized vehicles from the road. In 2009 they increased the costs on scooters by 65%. Last year there were numerous scooters on our streets. This year they're gone. Now people are buying little 50cc motors that mount on their bicycles and scooting around on them to avoid the atrocious insurance costs. We just don't carry enough political clout to have them listen.

Costs are so high because they claim that injury costs go up each year, which I don't question. What I do find intolerable is that all injury costs related to a bike accident, regardless of fault, are attributed to the bike's insurance. So a cager canmake aleft turninto my path, make me a quad and all the costs are racked up against the bike. What private insurance company would allow that? "Oh yeah, your driver was at fault but it's no problem, we'll just put it on our tab!" We have a monopoly system run by the government where there is no competition and no alternative, thus, the small guy gets stepped on. I took Economics and History in University and we were taught that a socialist system was suppose to champion the little guy. Nice on paper but power is a strong drink that few can control and our socialist government has lost sight of their own philosophical mantra. And the little guy pays.

End of rant.

The USA is about to learn that lesson.

Not sure what the coverages are, but the same exact insurance that cost me $120 in VA would have run me $900 here in KY. Same company.

I went with State Farm and consolidated a few things, much cheaper.

Well I talked to my agent and listed some of the figures you guys generated. I basically was told I should go ahead and move to Wisconsin if I wanted cheaper Rates. Thanks for all the input I can't believe the rates in Canada. I am only 40 miles from Rockford and ccsial is paying 1/3 of my rate on his GL1800, and my 78 is only worth the sales tax on his GL1800.

You need to move to Rockford and then just commute back to Canada to work :D

you might have restored your "olde-wing" to the best and prettiest condition (bravo's if you did) but find out what they will give you when it is totalled.... you may find it is only about $1500 to $2000.... so, drop the comp, keep the liability and "self-insure"
