Hi I am starting another post here because the related post was heading cracked failing coils and now I need to flag the Dyna S . I got a lot of good feedback thanks and even a set of replacement coils at a very good price, Unfortunately replacing the coils did not correct my problem of occasionally dropping two cylinders like a light switch and then pop back in a instant surging like a turbo boost!! My last post questioned cracked coils and now it seems I might have a Dyna S failing as almost every other possibility has been addressed and a member mentioned he had read where this was a common symptom of failing Dyna S. so anybody else have ever had this problem with their bike, and was it the Dyna. I would send it in or replace it but I would like not find out more cash spent and no fix.. I don't have the points plate or I could try to set it up back to points to see if it fix's it. I have just finished restoring it and have done all the recommended updates . I have put on only 200 miles as the new proud owner and of coarse want to keep riding. The forum has been an enormous help to the restoration and I have had some some tricky issues so far but with all your help it going pretty well.

Let's see what the guys say, I have a 78 naked that still has points. If they think it's the best thing since sliced bread, I'll look for a dyna, otherwise I might have another points plate. I've wanted to change over?

just my 2 cents here ---but i would spend the 25 cents and call them on the phone. they are still in bussness. they all so service the product. there is not a lot to go wrong with them and have proven to be a good investment. i dont think they will charge you to check out a system that is sent in to them . there is a web site http://www.dynaonline.com, i think. there address--164 south valencia st , glendora , ca , 91741 . the 800# is 928-3962 . hope this gets you back on the road.

Dyna will check out yours for free. Mine is at their facility now.. Mine is toast.. They will allow me to get a new one for 69.95. Bet they will do similar for you. Even if you have a dyna it still would be a good idea to keep a working set of points around. Other wise your bike will sit for a week or 2 while searching for points plate. ( I just got mine from ebay) New points today.. Yea.. They will check it out for free, as wda mentioned. Just call or email for a Return Authorization number.

Thanks WDA for the info I did find the site and called yesterday, Because Morriscat and I were discussing mine and his coil replacement earlier this week and mentioned his ignition was at now Dyna...getting replaced. Dyna said they actually give a new one If they find issues and no charge if not, just shipping, and charge the 69.95 if needs repair half of the new price.. thats all good if it solves the problem. Dyna gives no idea of symptoms just say to send it in and the things seldom ever fail. A week ago I started replacing coils thinking these Dyna's never fail and still have no ride. But I bought a fixer upper and thats what I got! I was hoping to hear first that the same symptoms were caused and repaired by this before sending it off. I just purchased the bike and did the whole carb, belts, battery, brakes, wiring, oil ,filters, shorted wires repaired, valves adjusted and mufflers restored. I did all that before I ran it and have no track record with the bike yet so everything new is a crap shoot. I just rebuilt the carbs I don't really know if something is wrong their. I did get in about 100 miles running well before this issue developed so I think all the other things were done well. Thanks

So today I ran the second day in a row with 2 spark plugs in my pocket 80 miles before finally It again dropped 2 cylinders.. pulled over and I shut down. The Dyna Tech page says On one side pull 2 plug caps, put the spares in and lay the plugs on the head. When I turned it over no spark on the back plug and jumped over to the other side and no spark again on the back cylinder so coil or electronic ignition? next I switched the 2 coil lead wires on the electronic and did the plugs again now I had spark on the 2 rear and no front 2,eliminating the coils from the issue and so glad because I went ahead and ordered the Dyna this morning with out this verification and actually I rode 80 miles since yesterday with no problem and it ran great until now.. I think I so have it nailed down and am thrilled that I already have ordered a new DYNA and have some positive proof of the problem instead of just hanging parts on. Thanks for all the advice it is excellent and I keep trying to pass on the issues I am running into for others who are resurrecting these old beauties." Keeping the Wings A Flyin"

Once again for those who may be having 2 cylinders fail at the same time. In this case finally after all the coils and carb checking it was the Dyna Electronic ignition. I now have a new unit installed and the bike is running great....Thanks all who here offer help these are hard problems to figure.
