headsets and earplugs

Installed an Edset for my wifes helmet last week before a trip. In the install instructions Ed recommended using ear plugs while using the headset. Had never done that before but figured Ed must know a little about headsets so we gave it a try. My wife and I were both very pleasantly surprised at the improved sound quality and lack of wind noise with the earplug/headset combo.

Since I've been riding for 30 years and using headsets for almost as long (homemade for the 1st several years) I thought I'd note this for the group as I had never heard of or tried the earplugs plus headset before and it does work very well.

If you've never tried it you will be surprised. We were.

Something that we military pilots have been doing for decades, under our helmets or headsets. Well, I did it up until I pulled the plug in 1986. Then, when I started flying commercially, we used those little earbuds and they about drove me crazy AND deaf.


"pulled the plug" OMG,that flew right over my head initially--but I like it.

I got my new Edsets yesterday and noticed the part about ear plugs. I may give it a try. He says it like riding in a Rolls Royce and listening to a Bose sound system.

Hmmm headsets and wear ear plugs when the wife is riding with you. She might suspect something, now some discreet wire cutting may give you the same results but be less noticable, and possibly help avoid a large sized skillet upside the head :goofygrin:

 Mine is never  a skillet , upside the head/forums/images/emoticons/sad.gif...  I had a pocket operated communicator on my SilverWing(easy to turn off) , and often turn the  intercom Volume on the Wing down to enjoy the music../forums/images/emoticons/cool.gif.. mine is either a leather glove thumped into the center of my back/forums/images/emoticons/shock.gif... or right on the back of the helmet...  usually accompanied by a "hey !!!" and  a second thump /forums/images/emoticons/shock.gif.... Silver /forums/images/emoticons/emoticonsxtra/cooldj.gif
