:waving:I've just joined your site, I'm a newbie to the Goldwing Mechanic's; although I've had a triked GL1000 for the last three years.

Been ridding bikes for nearly 34 years, but never had much to do with fixing them:?

Got tail ended about thirty three years ago. This left me with some limited mobility and strength in the legs thats why I ride a trike!

I always wanted a Gl when they first came out but due to the smash I couldn't hold the weight! Or afford one for that matter.

A few of you guys may have seen me on a couple of other sites moaning about my GL's engine leaking oil, not pulling as she should, etc.

my trike is actually a 1000cc K2 type 76 to 77 on a S plate.
I bought her off a trader on eBay to be honest I was conned a bit!
She's never been well, I've even had her on the Dr Rods Surgery on Men & Motors TV. He couldn't fix her really either, they said it was down to lack of time allowed on each bike/trike.

So I've been learning how to fix her myself, not doing to bad, I've learnt a bit (with help of friends) about lecky and the carbs, balancing them, etc. She was starting to loose her pull at the top end, found it hard to touch 80 mph (only for over taking)! She used to be able to touch a lot, lot higher number if need be! I never pushed her, because I'm past the fast and blast stage; I like to see where I'm going and where 'ave bin (if you know what I mean)? Anyway I put the lose of power down to the piston rings, also she was showing oil in the water and in the number one pot (spark plug hole).

A week last Sunday she went bang! Twice! First on the left and very shortly after did the same on the right! Leaving Blue/black smoke coming out of both tail pipes and oil all over the floor! The funny thing was, she didn't stall and I was able to ride her home (just under 2 miles) She left an oil and water trail all the way back, she'll even start now if I turn the key? (but I won't).

So I thought as the bolt holes on the frame are the same on both the 1000 & 1100, I'd try and get an 1100 engine and fit it! I decided to do this, not just for more power but the 1100's seem to be more easily to obtain than the 1000's?

If anyone knows of either a GL1000, or GL1100 engine (in working order) please let me know.

All the best to all, Ride safe

Clive

I've just moved up to Cumbria, from Brum area (I'm a Yorkie, tis mi missis thats the Brummy) so I don't know many bikers or where to get bits and bobs from, to fix her (but I'm leaning Lol) So I thought that I'd try eBay again!

Locally I know where serveral engines are but I think shipping would be a killer going across the pond. Ebay has these quite often but if it is allready out of the frame it is going to be tough to check it. I think I would look for a wrecked but running 1100.

Good Luck

Hi Clive, you must be the guy that emailed me and I replied to this morning. Can't be too many Cumbrian Clives who need an engine for a trike! As I sent you here, let me be the first to welcome you and beat all the others to it. This has got to be the best wing site in the world with loads of Gurus to help you out. they have a wealth of knowlage and are happy to dish it out for free. Now it might take a while to get responses, the yanks are either asleep or at work, but they will no doubt welcome you and make you feel at home. Watch out for Redwing, he is an Irishman who has eyes like a hawk and will soon spot your arrival on the site, don't take any stick from him, he is under the illusion that red goldwings are faster than other colours. :goofygrin:I sincerily hope that someone quickly picks up and finds you that engine, and if you get stuck throwing it in the trike, there are fellows here who can do it blindfolded!

Enjoy finding your way around the site and if you are good with the computer, you can probably help me!!

That sounds very Royal- "Clive of Cumbria" I should use that if I were you, but if you have kids, my what mongrels they are! Yorkie father, Brummy mother with Irish blood, I can see them now, red hair, black eyes and wellies and a flat cap!. I have lived in Bum and York, near the chocolate factory and in Haxby. Loved every minute of the north and wouldn't hesitate to go again.

Blimey, aren't you the one, hoping to have two engines, still not as posh as the guys over the pond, most of them have 2 or more wings, mind you some of them seem to like to ride naked sometimes!! I have just the one 1500 myself and it is apparently "Commodore Blue" according to a learned gentleman on this site. This of course is not a fast racey colour, more your serene glide along colour, but I suspect Redwing will have something to say about speed and colour before the night is out. I think you can pretty much get away with saying anything you like to him, he apparently only has an old RED niffty 50, so I doubt he'll catch up with a BLACK trike!

Hey Silverfox :whip: You are only a couple of months a member on this forum and should not be giving bad advice like that to a new member. :whip:

Redwing I was only messing about the black being faster! ;)

I mean everyone knows it's the Metallic Black and Silver that are the faster!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

I've got a 1000 engine that needs stripping down and rebuilding, so I've decided that I'm just going to have to knuckle down and get the thing stripped and fixed! I mean I could be missing out on a lot of rides out; by just sitting around waiting for a good runner engine to turn up!:)

I also know where there are two 1100 engines going for free! I am going to get them to see if I can make a good on out of two?

Thanks for the welcome!:clapper:

Sorry about that but it's REDWING that has it right! I once was foolish enough to think Green the fastest color, but I've learned the error of my ways.

That's it Rebuilt, get stuck in!! Told you that some guys here have a thing about the colour and speed of their bike.

If you had moved south I would have been happy to have given you some time getting the engine sorted, but trust you to go North.

Mind you the RED supporters are right at the moment, cuz yours is broke and mine is stripped down inthe workshop, but wait til wereback on the tarmac eh!!
