Greetings to all!

I've been a member of this forum for a few years now, but somehow a guy in California registered the same Email name as mine with Yahoo and it has created a lot of problems so I had to change my email address. This is a great forum and very helpful. I have a 1988 GL1500 with 94000 miles on the clock. It runs and rides great with the exception of my alternator that decided to stop working a couple of weeks ago. Gotta see how much fun it is to remove it so I can get it rebuilt.

Welcome back . I did a quick search in the workshop section and dont see a tutorial on the Alt removal . Its not a hard job , but its a tight fit . I see you have the first 1500 so its got a different alt then the 90 up models . First thing is to disconnect the battery so you dont cause any sparks flying . There should be ( if its like my 94) one wire which is held on a stud with a nut and another wire which has a plug connection . Then there are 3 bolts holding it to the engine . After those are out its a little wiggly game to pull it back and work it out of the frame . I would recommend you get 4 new rubber drive dampners for when you reinstall . I believe most good auto /electric motor shops should be able to help you with the Alt repair . The drive cushions could be sourced here :Cyclemax, The place to get discount aftermarket Honda Goldwing Parts and Accessories!! - 1500 Alternator Dampener Kit as well as Honda or some other Goldwing supply shops. Best of luck in the repair .

Thanks for all the welcome messages. I've enjoyed Goldwdings for a few years now. My 1st was an '85 Aspy and I really enjoyed it. Then the '88 came up and I couldn't turn down the price so I bought it and sold the '85. Absolutely love the 1500. The alternator on the 1500 was working when it wanted to and after searching this forum, I had the alternator out in about 10 minutes. Took it to a shop and the mech was very impressed that it's the original. He checked it out thoroughly and found the voltage regulator was bad. I'll pick it up tomorrow and get it re-installed. Then it's "On the road again. Just can't wait to get on the road again....":thumbsup:
