Help needed, GL1100 carb problem

Hi all: I am having a problem. I just finished a carb rebuild on my 1983 GL1100 standard, and when I go to start the bike, I'm getting a strange problem. The bike is backfiring, through the carburetors. What have I done wrong? How do I fix it?

To all: I discovered that it helps to hook up the correct coils to the correct plugs! I'm not out of the woods yet, as I am still getting backfiring at slower engine speeds.

What do your plugs look like? Did you set the float level correct?

I believe float levels are spot-on (15.5mm). I am now just backfiring from cyliner number 2. I suspect a bad plug wire. Could this cause it?
