When I had my 88, Dave saved my bacon more times than I care to admit.....and he continues to do so as I encounter head scratchers on my 99. There is an abundant wealth of knowledge in this group. When you break your issue down to specific problem areas....the gray matter starts a flyin!

Further update, having got only 3 wires connected in the red block of the RH switch unit with no fairing or bodywork fitted we have it running reasonably moving under power in 1st and even reversing, next bit is to wire up all the lighting from the LH switch with extra fuses and relays for the "triked(double the lights)" rear end. I am also trying to get the RH switch from the same bike as the used loom so that i dont have to sort out the cruise control wire colours in the loom, which dont match the switch!! Wish me luck, as i work nights working time on bike is erratic.
