Help with GL1100 single wire lights

I bought two side marker lights for my 82 Aspencade from JC Whitney (product# 13430G) to replace the stock reflectors on the saddlebags. These lights have only one lead coming off of them. Now I know that some single wire lights get their ground through the mounting hardware, but what about these? Everything is made of plastic, except for the screws that hold them together. Anyone familiar enough with these lights that can tell me how to hook them up? Thanks!

IF you have access to a meter, check to be sure that you have continuety from the wire, through the bulb to one of the metal screws. If you do, tap into the "Running Light" circuit of your turn-signal on the side you want to mount the light on. Then run another wire from the metal screw to a good clean frame ground... :gunhead:

The side marker lights you have are the bulb type. When adding lights to a GL 1100, it is a good idea to use LEDs. You might want to read the links below.

Your lights should have a ground on one or both the mounting screws. The turn signal lights at the bottom rearof the saddlebag are not wired with running lights, just turn. Wiring from the side marker lights will have to be connected to the tail/running light wiring under the seat.

They are plastic but ground threw the chrome finish to where they are mounted. If they are not mounted to metal you might have to solder a ground wire to the outside of the socket for the bulb. I had to do this to one of my light bar lights that the plastic housing was broken.
