Hi all
I'm getting my first wing, a new GL1800, in silver, next week
Can anyone tell me:
Will the jack plug on the audio aux lead supplied with the bike plug straight into my ipod?
Which headset should I buy, the Honda one seems very expensive
Can anyone recomend an accessories supplier in the UK?
Is it worth getting rear speakers? I don't carry a passenger, my wife rides her own bikes
Are there any 'must fit' accessories
Look forward to hearing from you all
Thanks markh
hi markh, and firstly a big warm welcome to the site, good to have you on board.:waving:
Well I am pleased to see you have bought the most prestigious of colours and of course the fastest!!!:cooldevil::clapper:
As said your ipod should link straight ito the lead in the left pocket, press the AUX button on the stereo and away you go for sounds. Following on from that, you may like to have your Ipod recharged from the bike, so a good first addition would be to add a powe outlet in the front wall of the left pocket. If your bike is a European spec one of the few plug and play features of the Euro spec is the power for an electrical socket to be fed to the pocket. Under the pocket is a rubber shroud covering connections on wires, If you push the shroud back hard, you will discover a small white socket in there, this is where you can take power for a socket from. Next, on the back of the front wall o the pocket is marked a very small X which marks the spot to drill the hole for the electrical outlet. a ready made up socket is available to fit in the hole you drill and it is fitted with a wire and plug for in that shroud.
You can obtain this socket from somewhere like Cyclemax as mentioned or from a specialist Wing shop like Colin Appleyards, in Yorkshire.
There are many different makes of headset available from J&M or Starcom1 who both do Goldwing specific sets and a google search will throw up details of those manufacturers. again somewhee like colin appleyards will sell some of the makes.
You mentioned that your wife rides in he own right, so you might want to consider something like an Autocom system which will allow for bike to bike communication as well as integration with the Wing for the music GPS and phone via bluetooth.
in my opinion, if you are wanting to fit speakers to the rear, you would do well to find and buy after market as the Honda ones are a bit naff and distort at levels well below that of the front ones. All you need to do is make sure they are reasonably weatherproof and the same size. ( use the search box to find details of some people have fitted) Marine suppliers are one good source for good weatherproof speakers.
As for anything else as "must haves" I think you will pretty quickly discover all the possibilities and a search of Cyclemaxohio's site will give you plenty of ideas and make you drool!!!
I have no vested interest in Cyclemax other than the fact that Gary and Betty the proprietors look after members of this site very well and look after the UK members especially well.
Well that should get you started and perhaps we shall see you in Scotland for our Meet & Greet in May..(details in the events foum)
Enjoy the forums and please visit often.
