Hello to all the Honda fans out there. I've been riding for over 35 years now. Started out on modified XL dirt bikes way back. Graduated to street bikes in '79 with a CB750 Limited. Lost that bike to a crash with a drunk driverandstopped riding for a while after that.Foundthe same model bike in a used bike shop in Nashville.Been meaning to do a complete restoration for some time now but never got around to it until last year. Stillworking on the restoration, but almost done.Frame and body are done, hope to have the engine back together and running within the next couple of months.
In the meantime, I came across a'79 GL1000 at an auction last week at a bike shop that was going out of business after 90 yearsand got it for a steal.I bought it as is, seeing the potential under the coat of dust.Except forthe dust, the bike appeared to be in great shape. Aftera good wash, the true beauty came out of the dingy beast. Except for a couple of tears in the seat, I couldn't believe what great shape it was in. Not a single scratch in the paint or chrome anywhere. Even the original Vetter Windjammer package is in pristine condition.
It has obviously been taken care of. Even the original owners manual and tool kit are still intact and in great shape. After doing a cursory maintenance exam, replacing the battery and removing the stale gas from the tank and carbs, I got it started with the help of some starter fluid. Smoking a bit from the left cylinder head, so I didn't let it run for long until I can doa thorough once over.
Hope to see you out on the road soon!
