For holding gaskets and "O" rings in place during assembly or dis-assembly, I use petroleum jelly (vaseline) instead of grease. It is a great lube, and assimilates faster and more completely with engine fluids than does regular grease.

(If I'd-a known this was going to Ireland, I would havecalled 'em "O'rings"!!) :goofygrin:

The old-timer mechanics prefer Vaseline for that as it's thicker and holds the O rings better. They also use Vaseling on battery terminals.

Petroleum jelly, Petrolatum, Vaseline - all pretty much the same stuff.

Makes great assembly lube for the small stuff and is especially good on fuel system parts.

Just be careful that you don't stick your greasy, dirty hands into the wife's supply of vaseline makeup remover - she wasn't too happy!
