my first post on this forum. what is the purpose of this subject ?
i would really like to upgrade my old ignition. just because it is old.
a first read of this subject here , the author asks for input... then it seems he has built one 2 years ago ?
and has no time to post any findings or even parts used such as the type of coils etc. ???
hopefully , we dont wait too long. 0:)

By the way GWrascal, what are you looking for in your ignition system upgrade?

Most of what they are doing has already been done on the forums.
The tower coils were brought out in the open via Dave a couple years ago.
The optical stuff isn't new and explained in the forums.
And multi-discharge is cheap for all of us now.
ended up searching this site for diy optical pickup ignition info,

as far as any info at all, or going to
The optical stuff isn't new and explained in the forums
it comes down to 1 short thread and this info
http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/2-goldwing-technical-forum/543642-one-36-year-old-hot-rod.html
My solution was to use the points box as a base for fitting a custom distributor. In this case I used the optic pickup from a Toyota pickup truck, a cap and rotor from a Fiat 850, and an old Heathkit CDI unit driving an Accel coil. Had to machine up adapter rings to mount the pickup, the cap and another adapter to hold the rotor. The slotted rotor from the pickup system only need very little material removed from the inside to press tightly over the stock point cam.
anyone know of further info on this site (or any other gw forum) relating to this point?

and i'm talking about diy for early goldwings, this part is too vague

optical ignition in itself is nothing new and was even available to early GWs by either a Co or product that came & went

i had it (aftermarket option then, 'illumenition' sp?) on a britt spotscar in the 70s

i have run across 3 one off distributor setups on early wings, another is on this site, gm based (but don't think optical) in one short thread with ltd info and randakk went there also but afaik didn't offer kits/parts, but i haven't checked out all the wing sites either

Interesting conversation fellas.
Not certain how to appease a mind aside from this, ...at the moment:

..without knowing the recipe, the required ingredients, where to get the ingredients, how to properly mix those ingredients, what oven temperature or how much time required for baking, then you've no choice but to buy a cake from the Baker.

So, if it appeases your minds, do know that The Bakery here has baked that cake.
When time allows for it, we will all bake that optical ignition cake.
I simply do not have the time right now to do it.
C5 has them if you want them.
That is the option of the moment.

pretty poor analogy. mr midnite. i am sorry if i expected more info here.
i was under the impression this was a thread about an ignition. and you have lots of experience ( apparently ). i ,for one , have seen no evidence of that so far. making statements and then " got no time "
to back them up, just dont wash with me sir.
so please, if you have some thing to add that can be useful please do so. if not, please do not make these staements.
Unfortunately, this is my thread and I will post to it as I see fit.
If you've no patience in waiting for the outcome of this thread then please go read another forum thread.
You are continuously disrupting the continuity of my threads in particular with your comments.
If you can add anything to any of my threads since your arrival onto this forum, then do so.
Enjoy.

I look forward to any input of "proven" Do-It-Yourself, higher performing ignition modifications. I'm interested in more working models than those theoretical models, but all conversation is welcome.
If you do not mean it, why write it?

When DaveO started his thread, he did it with facts, figures, and pictures of how to do it. http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/2-goldwing-technical-forum/356137-coil-alternative-gl1100s-probably-1200s-too.html

Some are still wondering when you are going to do the same. I guess it is more of that "show me" mentality... you know: actions and not words.

I've no time right now and I am not Dave.
I check-in when I can.
If you could help contribute something positive and technically forward-moving in my short and temporary absence, I would sure appreciate it.
Thanks Brian.

it's very simple, you said about c5

They too have a "one plate fits all" approach. Pick the number of pick-ups, clock them, drill for mounting, 2 or 4 cylinder wheel and... SHA-ZAMM! We in business...

Street applications will find no benefit in using optical vs. Hall (magnetic) triggering.

@ $450.00 they are re-couping their development costs, ...probably on a 2.5 multiplication factor. Maybe even higher.
You and I can put the same thing together for less than $100.00. If you're really thrifty, sub-$50.00 is a truth.
the truth is, you have not answered or responded directly to this claim whatsoever, it is directly related to this thread and this is a forum,

so yes, it is your thread and you can do whatever you like, but i doubt this thread is going anywhere before there is a response, or will there be much real interest in anything you may have to say, in this thread, or any other scc related, without one

and yes, you are not dave who is taken seriously and respected when he starts a thread, why? because he earned it, by behavior & example,

in another thread where there is discussion of randakk's products, you have no problem stating
http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/2-goldwing-technical-forum/436050-77-1000-resurection-2.html
Propaganda in marketing is rampant with these aftermarket GL parts, so be careful in what you read, hear and purchase.
and these are legitimate businessmen, with established track records,

at the same time, you offer claims, puzzles and delays to simple questions and present yourself as an authority in regards to scc and seem to think that is completely honky dory,

perhaps it would be much more appropriate to say to, or about you and scc,
Propaganda in marketing is rampant with these aftermarket GL parts, so be careful in what you read, hear and purchase

Thanks for your interest in high performance ignition.
If you've any technical contributions to add, I would appreciate your help in a forward-moving framework as well.
Thanks again.

hello,
i am interested in this subject, and am keen to make a high performance ignition myself. i am under the impression though that
it is above the skillset of the average tinkerer. a lot of hi tech questions need to be answered before i have an attempt.
