I just picked up a Pioneer 520 yesterday. Sure enough it has a few of these caps. I think they originated on the super cub in the fifties, and seems to have been used on every Honda I have ever owned and most I have seen. They used them for different things model to model but they always seem to be there, somewhere.
I expect Honda has made billions of these parts.

You're probably right. And I would bet probably one of the most replaced parts on the bikes as they make it with such a soft metal that it gets rounded off way too easily. A 6 point socket is pretty much mandatory when removing or tightening. And not cranking it down when reinstalling.

I always knew I had spares for my '88 Wing and now my '12 since my 78-CB750 Honda has several in the head for valve adjustment.
