Things are not looking so rosy for my resurrected wing. It starts, runs but has begun spitting out droplets of black oil out the left exhaust.
I'm using Marvel Mystery oil and what I'm suspecting is that the thin oil is leaking past the valve stem seals. The engine has high compression so I don't think the rings are suspect.
I haven't done this procedure on a wing but I have done valve jobs on cars and other bikes. I prefer not to disturb the head so I would like to use the compressed air method to hold the valves, but I can't figure out how to compress the springs from the outside. Does the compressed air hold the valves rock solid or is the nylon rope method more secure.Normally you use a valve spring compressor when the head is off but I don't have anything to use with the head in place.
Also any suggestions on a way to lock up the pulley for the cam shaft. The Honda manual depicts a u shaped flat bar that no doubt has a large pin that goes into the pulley openings. This is to allow removal of the center bolt. Are all the other seals (cam shaft etc) re-useable? Or should they be replaced? If so where would I get them?
Any other precautions would be appreciated.
Thanks for any info
