How do I get to the speedo cable on my '86 Interstate?

I have downloaded three manuals for my '86 1200 and they all are either unclear or do not address how to reach the other end of my speedo cable - which needs lubrication so much, it broke the speedo drive on my front wheel.

Can anyone tell me briefly how and what to remove to get to it?

Thanks in advance!

On a 1500 you can pull the cable out at the wheel gear box. Unscrew the cable and just pull the cable out from it's sheaf, clean it and put it back. Don't forget to remove the gearbox and clean that too. Now, as I said this is for a 1500 not totally sure about a 1200

Hope this helps you

Remove screw from the speedo drive, slide housing back remove cable. Clean cable with brake/carb cleaner and rag.

Clean inside of outer cable housing with same or electronics cleaner.

Lightly lube entire speedo cable with white grease, reassemble.

Enjoy the ride!!!
