Most of the time I use a little acetone and a white rag. In most cases it will do the trick and not damage the lens. Acetone evaporates really fast. It might take a little elbow grease but should do the trick. I hope this helps.
Try some chrome cleaner or Brasso, it worked for me. The chrome cleaner is very lightly abrasive and will remove the paint without scratching the lens.
I own a sign shop and i always use citrus based cleaner or alcohol. Just don't use anything stupid like pvc cleaner or nail polish remover. It will melt the plastic.
