My 84 standard seems to run just fine on regular plugs. Is there advantage to using the resistor plugs?

Yep, if you don't have a radio you don't need them. I don't have a radio, and have never had any kind of a sound system on a bike.

Com'on... have a little compassion for the guy listening to his radio in the car next to you, or the one your passing... the interference protection is not just for the bike we are riding, but for others around us too...
