A buddy and I attended the 5th annual Barberfest Vintage MC. show, race. and auction.
I voted for Randakk's superb white turbo-charged gl 1000 in the peoples choice contest , it garnered much attention but I had to leave before the counting of the votes at 4:00 , so I did not find out if he won or not .
I talked with the fellow that was handing out the ballots and tried to find out if
Randall himself was around , he said he hadn't seen him since he dropped of his bike that morning but surely he would be back at 4 for the vote count, but I missed him . Man that thing was beautiful!!!
WE had a most wonderful day gawking at the concours kept machines and also the rust-heaps . We saw everything from Velocettes to Vincents,lots of great old Triumphs,BSA's and Nortons every where you looked.
Benlys , Dreams , Whizzers and CBX's ,Pentons,Ossas,Laverdas, Moto Guzzis,Bultacos,Cushmans,AJS,HRD,Husqvarna,Urals,And a single pristine bonestock gl 1000, a 76 model in red.
There was a thrilling air show with some radial engined ,open-cockpit planes flying so close to the ground you could smell the exhaust , those five engines played the most beautiful music I ever heard!!!
At the end of the show I looked around and met face to face with none other than the world champion Kevin Schwantz!!
He was very cordial and we talked for serveral minutes just he and I !!!!!
Man that made my day , every few minutes until I went to bed that night I exclaimed out lout " I CAN'T BELIEVE I MET KEVIN SCHWANTZ!"
After watching a few vintage bike races we watched THE WALL OF DEATH show then went back to Randakk's bike to see if he was around , never did find him . ( I bet he was being treated like royalty in the VIP clubhouse!)Needless to say we had as much fun as two old cyclist could have had in one day! Cannot wait til next year.Ya'll come and lets go !!!! =======picasso
