I took a spill today

Its been a long day lol. I got my igniter boxes for my gl1100 and was on my way to a friends house to tear it apart and i took a dive :( I was pulling up to a red light and all the sudden i was rolling end over end and the bike was skidding on its side about 50 feet. The guy behind me locked up his brakes to keep from hitting me and i didnt even notice until he told me so lol. I tought i hit a bad place in the road and it put my wheel in a bind. The guy helped me pick it up...fired right up and i went to take off and and BAM! down again...... I called a few buddies on my and we quickly figred out the problem.

That dual chrome bar that goes around my fender came loose and i somehow ran over it and it lodged between my wheel and fender. That cause the wheel to lock up dumping me to the ground. Only one side of of that bar came loose.

I am ok but very sore. I got some road rash and my knee is killing me but my gf kissed it and made it all better lol. I was very lucky it didnt happen at 60 mph lol. I wasnt wearing a helmet or my leather jacket but my jeans saved me from some more road rash i think.

As for the bike.......its fine! the bars are a little scuffed up and my speedo cabe got kinked and stopped working. There is a rubbing sound coming from the front tire now but i think that bar bend my chrome discs a little and there rubbing the rotors.

I learned my lesson today. Get a frikkin helmet (didnt hit my head though), TIGHTEN EVERY BOLT ON THAT FENDER AND BAR AND WHATNOT BEFORE I RIDE, and find a mechanic thats good with carbs lol, (last carb guy said my igniters were bad and thats why its idling rough).

Peace

Sorry to hear about you and the bike. The bike can be fixed easier than you can be fixed, wear the helmet!

PS. I don't think that mechanic is correct in his assumption it's the igniters.

Time to start thinking towards ATGATT? Sh*t happens, it's hard to predict, and the gear is there to help you. A summer vented-armor jacket is lightweight and ready to chew the road on your behalf. The helmet - goes without saying.

All that said, I'm glad you're doing okay. Check ebay for a speedo cable.

Glad you're ok. I know all to well how it feels to hit the road.

Glad your OK, bike can be fixed, there is a long line for people replacement parts though:D.....

Stop doing that.

Now you know why you have to do your own wrenching.
But you have to do it.

Glad that you are OK. You never know when or if you are going to need a helmet, but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

Wow, glad you are not badly hurt, lucky you. Bike can be fixed. At least your girlfriend was not on the back when it happened.

thanks guys. im a bit sore today but im good. i took off all the front end crap and rode it the rest of the night. my friend gave me a speedo cable which im going to replace today. we checked the threads that went to the chrome bar and there all messed up so im gonna retap them. now i just need to find a new chrome bar. im also taking the wheel off today and checking everything cause im hearing some rubbing going on.

about the igniters. that carb guy is susposed to be the best around here but i dont believe that. everyone else says either the igniters work or they dont work. i waisted 50 bucks in them but at least i can take them back to sharpies in chillicothie and exchange them for something else. i could really use a stereo and a new chrome bar up front lol. going to wally world today for a helmet cause they had some in the clearence isle last week.

Before you price that helmet at Wally World put a price on the value of your head staying in one piece, then go buy a good helmet. Glad you are OK!

Nothing wrong with a Wally World helmet. They don't make them. Just make sure it's DOT approved and go ride.
