Not any more. Holy crap, every time I turn around I'm spending a bunch more on this bike or some riding gear. It seems to be a motorcycle thing and not a Harley rider thing. My apologies for all my past transgressions to my Harley friends. :waving:

Its not bike-exclusive at all. Have friends that snowmobile, and do a lot of that 3 & 4 wheel ATV stuff, and boats (fishing). I have heard horror stories about airplane related stuff...but them guys are all LOADED. In fact, they're all coming here soon, for their annual "$pend-off"

about all i have bought for my 1500 was a cup holder and only because I mistakenly
misplaced the old one. I have gotten a soft bag that mounts on the trunk rack, two bags for each side trunk etc. I am not one for bling/chrome etc. I kid my buddy at work who bought an 08 ultra last year. He complains about no power when he puts the stock mufflers back on. :baffled: Simply put I dont spend anything on the bike unless its maintenance related. I like them just as they are.

My kids have already been worring about what will leave them and thought we were blowing our (or their) money when we went all out and bought a new charcoal grill, and something for the Bike. :cheeky1::cheeky1:

I have made a promise to my self not to purchase anything for the bike that will not make for a better touring experience. There is no chrome bling on my bike, no LED lights behind panels, no chrome trim on my gas door. I am a large guy and there is not a lot of riding gear in my size so I have not been able to go out and buy a special mesh panel jacket or pants. I got my riding gloves at Menards, they are deerskin and are made by Wells Lamont. I have not purchased special riding boots, got my boots at Farm & Fleet for $50. I use them around the house and at work too. And of course since I ride a Honda the pirate costume is optional. I have been seen riding in jeans and a golf shirt. My original seat seems to fit me fine. Two, one day, rides of over 500 miles and my butt never ached.
I spent more on my 81 gl1100 when I got it three years ago then I have so far on the 1800. I do spend a lot of time looking on line etc for good deals on what ever I do purchase (I prefer to call myself frugal).
My Helmets were purchased online, they were discontinued models or last years model that were brand new and heavily discounted. $35 for my GMAX 3/4 and $75 for my GMAX modular. Even with shipping costs they were less then the new models anywhere.
All I am trying to say is you do not need to spend too much money to enjoy riding. My expenses are for gasoline and lunch on the road.
Probably the only real extravagance I have is the little scale model of a wing that I have on my desk. it was $11.00 on ebay with the shipping.

I'm not adverse to adding bling, but it sure seems ashame what plastic double side stick on cost. What a rip off.
I tend to add functional pieces (back rest, highway pegs, etc.) rather than the bling. Don't misunderstand though, there are some things I would like to add, but I seem to be having an out-of-money-expereince.

I'm of the opinion to much of anything (less riding the wing) isn't a good thing. Regarding Bling, well if it's tastefully done I think it looks good. I've seen some that light up like a christmas tree and have more stuff on them than a christmas tree which for me is to much. If that's what a persons into hey more power to ya just not my thing.

When I look through the J&P Cycles or Dennis Kirk catalogs... Goldwing section... I see nothing that I must have or really want. My 05 Wing only has a few added function farkles. I'm with some of the others who have posted here. For me... I don't want a chromed out Christmas tree. For others that is great and I would not knock them for doing what they want and like. So the added costs, including riding gear, has worked out to just about what I figured.
My second bike, added to my present wing...someday... will likely be a HD. Then look out. For me, a Harley is a blank canvas waiting to be farkled...... or is that a blank check waiting to be..........

Buy your tires on line, or find a good price on line and have a dealer match it. The Motorcycle Superstore was selling Stones for a little over300, free shipping, I printed it and a local dealer matched it. I take the wheels in and pay to have them mounted as I'm not in to that struggle, but by removing them from the bike, that saves alot of labor.Anyway, this won't stop me from enjoying my GL1800 but I am now interested in lowering my maintenance costs, where possible.
Get a service manual and do most of the service work yourself. Oil & filter changes are very easy, as are a lot of other items - maybe take it in for the valves at 30,000, but you should be able to do the rest.
