This time armed with NGK Iridium Plugs and Full synthetic oil and filter.

When I bought the bike, 2000 miles ago, the PO had changed the oil with Valvoline 10-40, K&N filter and new KB6 NGK plugs......

NGK are good, but I do prefer the Iridium, and for $45, I don't have to do that again for another 75K to 80K miles.

I know you can tell a difference when you change plugs because they are new plugs, but I just took out plugs with less than 2000 miles on them and I could tell a difference in how much smoother it ran.

Then I did the synthetic oil change. The only reason I went with synthetic was I am going to be on the road and plan on putting on several thousand miles, I didn't want to have to worry about oil changes while on the road.

I completed the change, started it up and the usual 1 to 2 secant engine rattles (louder when your right there by the oil filler with the side covers off) I rechecked the oil level, it was fine so I put it back together, took it off the side stand, strapped on the helmet pulled in the clutch shifted into first, let out on the clutch .......... and nothing........ wouldn't move.......... My fears were the synthetic ruined my clutch........... Then I pulled in the clutch again, tried first again and in she went.............. I must not have stepped on it hard enough.............

I went for a short ride and there is a noticeable shift difference, although not huge, noticeable. Were I do see a difference is in starting. Normally, I can hear a little tappet or other noise for a couple of seconds when I start up till the oil builds pressure and gets around to everything, now I hear nothing but the purr of the engine. For the few dollars more that it cost for the synthetic, I may continue with it and see if it holds up to it's reputation.

I think she is Road Ready for a couple of weeks now...............

Fun! I may disagree with some parts/items, but who cares! It is theraputic in nature to do some of the basic work, then ride off to reap the rewards.

Ride long, ride safe!
You can disagree, based on your own experiences.

Everyone will have differing results based on many (Personal, environmental etc) variables, doesn't mean there's a right or a wrong, it is what it is as stated by either person for each person.........
Took Beavis for a nice long ride. There is a nice route that I take almost every night, it's about 75 miles round trip and I can tell ya, the synthetic oil makes a difference. I can equate the smoothness of the engine to using TWC oil in the gas, just don't feel the roughness I use to feel. Going down the straight a ways doing 55 or 65, it just seemed quieter....... Nice ride!
What synthetic oil did you use ?

I agree 100%. If it weren't for different experiences research would be unnecessary. And it would be very boring.
I replaced the shifter seal on the Aspy just before the spring break ride. While I had all the plastic off I re-synched the carbs and really, really took my time doing it. I also replaced my plugs with OEM NGK.

I was staggered at how much that effected my gas mileage. I picked up about 5 to 8... for which I am thankful.

I've been running synthetic for the last two years without a problem. My bike seemed to be noticeably smoother. I 'll have to try the iridium plugs.
