1993 gl 1500 se. the weirdest thing, i accidently bumped the starter button while the bike was running and everything cut off. usually if you accidently hit the starter button what you hear is the starter freewheel. Is this the sign of a starter solenoid going bad. just put a new starter in a few months ago the old one had a broken wire in the armature and was still starting the bike but barely and also it was making the reverse move really slow. did also have an instance in where the starter stayed engaged for a split second but i though maybe my starter button was sticking so i sprayed some contact cleaner on the switch and it never did it again but now i'm left with the weird cutting off if the starter button is tapped when running. now i don't make it a habit of hitting the starter button when the bikes running but i just thought that seemed strange. anyone have any thoughts?

Does this happen whan you're riding, in gear, idling with the sidestand down, or when?

I've been kinda watching this post, and I'm not seeing enough data to begin a guess.

So far, I'd have to go with the thought of NOT bumping the switch when you're not intending to start or reverse the bike... But that doesn't fix up you issue.

Under what conditions does this happen -- You mention that usually you'd hear the starter spin -- tht would indicate that you're doing this in neutral, or with the sidestand up / clutch lever in... ???
