1993 gl 1500 se. the weirdest thing, i accidently bumped the starter button while the bike was running and everything cut off. usually if you accidently hit the starter button what you hear is the starter freewheel. Is this the sign of a starter solenoid going bad. just put a new starter in a few months ago the old one had a broken wire in the armature and was still starting the bike but barely and also it was making the reverse move really slow. did also have an instance in where the starter stayed engaged for a split second but i though maybe my starter button was sticking so i sprayed some contact cleaner on the switch and it never did it again but now i'm left with the weird cutting off if the starter button is tapped when running. now i don't make it a habit of hitting the starter button when the bikes running but i just thought that seemed strange. anyone have any thoughts?

Strange that it will start but die when you press start. When this happens do you push it enough to engage the starter or just enough to kill the headlights?
It's amazing how many WEIRD things can go wrong with these machines...good Lord, some of the stuff NASA builds is probably less complex!

NASA's stuff usually only has to work once. To make these machines do what they are intended to do safely and reliably for years takes some complexity.
I am afraid to guess what might be wrong.
Well here I go guessing. Some things to try to narrow it down. Does it do it in either high or low beam? What if you pull the headlight fuse? Check the ground on the right side of the frame above the dip stick. Also there is a ground gang connector on the left side of the frame taped in the main harness at about the front of the gas tank (not shown in the ETM).
