1993 gl 1500 se. the weirdest thing, i accidently bumped the starter button while the bike was running and everything cut off. usually if you accidently hit the starter button what you hear is the starter freewheel. Is this the sign of a starter solenoid going bad. just put a new starter in a few months ago the old one had a broken wire in the armature and was still starting the bike but barely and also it was making the reverse move really slow. did also have an instance in where the starter stayed engaged for a split second but i though maybe my starter button was sticking so i sprayed some contact cleaner on the switch and it never did it again but now i'm left with the weird cutting off if the starter button is tapped when running. now i don't make it a habit of hitting the starter button when the bikes running but i just thought that seemed strange. anyone have any thoughts?

This thread has made me start thinking about how I use the start button to blink my lights. I first did this by mistake when wanting to drop a few MPH with cruise control. When I noticed that it caused the lights to blink. It did not make the starter try to engage so I figured because the motor was already running it shut the relay to the starter off. Now I am wondering if it is the neutral switch that keeps the starter from engaging. I have never hit the button while running and in neutral so I don't know if it would work then or not. Anyone know for sure?
Engine running and in neutral the starter will engage and lights will go off,but you will hardly even notice as the oner-running clutch will disengage the drive. If in gear and you use the start button light will go off and that is all.

Thanks Redwing.
