I here plenty of complaints about the LA freeways but then how does anyone ever get to work on time and on a regular basis? Short of lane spliting, how does a cage driver maintain a job?

I used to live/work in L.A. If I left by 0515, I'd make it to work by 615. 45 Minutes early.

If I left later than about 0520 or so, I wouldn't make it to work until 0800 or later. traffic there sucks.

You learn what time you have to leave by to miss the really bad traffic. Plus or minus 5 minutes can literally change your drive time by 20 minutes. And you learn all of the back roads. But then, everyone else knows the back roads too. So, they fill quickly.

That is also why most employers have very flexible work hours.
