I have a 1982 interstate goldwing. I am looking to get dual sport tires for the winter on it. I am have trouble finding a rear tire for a 16" stock rim. Would there be any way to use a lower profile tire with a 17" rim and still have the clearance needed. And has anyone ever done this?

Sure, a 17" wheel off an 80-81 will fit. They used a 130/90 17 tire.

Awesome thank you. With the wheel that's on it now that's a 130/90-16 wouldnt the 17" throw out the speedo?

I thought the speedo drive was on the front wheel.

It's supposed to have a 140/80 16 . The speedo is already wrong but that won't change it.

No, but installing a 70-series tire on the stock rim would probably make the speedometer spot on. :D

The size of the rear rim, has nothing to do with the Speedometer, it gets it speed info from a gear off the Front Wheel.
