I had the same problem on my 84 GL1200 AE Asp

Buy one off E-Bay me thinks?, Uh Uh!

The unit I had purchased had a worse problem than mine, resolution was to split the two units and place all the good bits together.

Not as easy as it sounds, the connections between the board and display are rubber strips with conducting elements running through, moisture or damp air near any of these components spells disaster.

If you are feeling brave you can clean the contacts and rubbers using a weak alcohol solution, any spec of dust will send you back to square one.

On following the above I have improved on my display but have one annoying Bar out on the fuel gauge, THE LAST ONE Ahhhhhh!
Mallers,.
