Insurance (Carole Nash) for the UK Guys

Having just received my insurance renewal from Carole Nash, I thought that I might just check it against other quotes.

While doing this, I went on their site and asked for an online quote, with exactly the same details and was amazed to get a quote which was £63 cheaper than the one they sent me :X:X:X

I'll be ringing tomorrow to see how they explain this one, but the moral seems to be: Don't just accept the renewal quote, but ALWAYS shop around.

also ask how much they charge for making changes to a policy after renewal, i.e. changing bikes, one well known one charges over £20 a time - not bad u might think except if you have to swap bikes for whatever reason a couple of times

I now use a broker who doesn't charge (yet!) but they do handle 2 cars 2 bikes and house insurance

Ian,

As you know, there were two crashes at the Treffen. The second one involved 3 bikes from Border and one from Cumbria. One Border Member was with Carole Nash and the others with Aire Valley. Last I heard, the Carole Nash guy is still waiting for his bike to come back from Carole Nashes specialist insurance repair shop (apparently waiting for parts). The others were sorted out and their bikes repaired at local dealers months ago.

Your point about on line being cheaper than the renewal has been raised before. Also, when I renewed last year, they beat Aire Valley by about £20 but only covered the trailer 3rd party and not the contentsand didn't include recovery for the trailer, which is kinda crucial if your bike needs recovering.

At the end of the day, it depends what level of recovery you require. They do offer some competitive policies, especially classic policies for the 4 cylinder wings, but don't provide what we need for the amount of UK and European touring we do.

Spoken to them today, and the guy at the other end confirmed that it was for exactly the same level of cover, protected no-claims, etc and admitted it was with exactly the same insurer!!!

So, I'll be renewing at the new price, ta very much.

It pays to shop around (even within the same broker:D), and not just accept the quoted renewal as the best option.

Ian i know you are sorted but i got a on line quote from bennets and found when the policy came through trailers were not allowed at all, although the policy had not started it cost me £30 for admin, so guys and gals out there please check the small print as a lot of them hide bits in there, as one person said when i asked do you read the small print, well yes i do, i work for an insurance company. As for carole nash they put a lot of the renewals up after they got took over, good save ian
