Hey Folks,

I'm looking at buying a 1982 GL1100 that has been sitting for over a year. The owner says before he parked it the last time, he had overhauled the carbs. After not using it for a while, now it only runs for 3-4 seconds before shutting down. Is this a gummed carb problem or something else like fuel pump?

Anyway, while searching possible causes, I ran across this forum. Looks like you guys know your stuff, so hopefully you can help me diagnose this thing and let me know if you think the bike is worth messing with. It has 37,000 miles on it and looks to be in pretty nice shape.

Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Flyone, thanks for the welcome.

Dang, I just now read the "New Member Info" and realized I had indeed committed one of the cardinal rules of a tech forum and that is I posted my problem with my intro. I'll move the question over to another category.

Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to getting back in the saddle after 20 or so years of not having a bike. I rode a CB 750 Super Sport until the early 80's, then rode a Goldwing for a few years before going overseas.

I'm getting the itch again and I've "pretty much" got my better half on board with the idea.

Looking forward to getting to know you good folks in the 'wing community.
