The GL1500s are all the same in that regard. You either have to use one of those cassette adapters to connect your MP3 into the bike, or better still just buy an FM adapter. That thread you linked to has all the answers to this.

It's not difficult at all Brian. Many people use the cassette adapter which can be bought cheap. It's literally plug n play.

I went the FM modulator route on my bike - plugs into the top of the ipod and draws the power it needs from the ipod itself. Also brought a cheap ipod cigar light power adapter from ebay for £3.00 cut the power adapter off of it and wired it to the power panel.  The ipod now lives in the top trunk with a power connection to keep it on charge.  The modulator broadcasts at least 15mtrs distance from the bike so be careful which channel you tune it too.rgdsPhil
