I have done the SS1000 twice, on my Vulcan 750. It was arranged ahead of time, and I had an Iron Butt member meet me at the station where he recorded my departure. I saved all my receipts for gas and kept records. At the 550 mile turnaround point, another member met me to verify I was there. I then turned around and went back to where I started, and again got personal verification. I actually did just over 1100 miles. Don't go by the bikes odometer, they always read low, just like the speedometer. I had starting, midway, and finish points that were known to be over 1000 miles. The SS1000 is easy, and gets you in. With that piece of paper you can get all kinds of Iron Butt goodies, from t-shirts to coffee mugs to license plate frames.
Anyone interested in doing it go to the Iron Butt site and get all the details. One guy on advrider.com managed to do all 49 states in 10 days. I still don't know how. He was riding a Victory Vision.
