Sounds like the stator is good then. Run it for a while, then shut off. Disconnect the battery terminals. Measure your battery with a voltmeter (available at any electronics store). Should be 13.8 or thereabouts.
Check it again in the morning, and if it's dead, or below 12 volts, and I'll bet it is, the battery is wore out.
Once you get a meter, you can test the stator. There are quite a few posts about that subject in the reference section.
