Jack for Goldwing

Hi All,

Has anyone ever heard of or run across a jack that can be used to right a Goldwing that has been gently dropped. I've discovered that I am not capable of lifting a 800+ lb Bike that is on it's side. Luckily, some fellow bikers stopped and helped me get my bike up on its tires. No damage done if you don't count my ego.

I was thinking along the lines of an air bag that would go under the engine and when inflated would lift the low side of the bike enough so that one person could right it. This could be done with a portable 12VDC tire pump and could be carried in a saddlebag.

I also was thinking of a hydraulic bottle jack with a fabricated attachment that would attach to the engine crash bar. Just attach the jack and pump it up to lift the bake back up on the tires.

When you are out by yourself. This could be a problem. Then again maybe I should consider a trike!!

Input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hewy

If you're big enough to ride a Goldwing then your big enough to pick it up. Follow the directions on the previously linked page. My wife was always afraid of dropping her bike until she had to pick her bike up at an advanced rider course she took recently. She didn't believe she could do it until she was told how by the instructor, now she thinks it's simple and would never worry about dropping her bike. I've picked my bike up like that and it is easy (Nobody saw that right?)

Thanks NightWizard 40,
Definitely good instruction on picking up a dropped bike. I used most of what was explained but unfortunately where the bike went down the ground was sloped and very uneven. I think had I been on flat ground I might have been successful in getting it up by myself. But then if frogs had wings they wouldn't bump thier butts when the hop!

Once when caught like you describe, I pulled and tugged until I got my bike turned around on the slope with the wheels on the down hill side.

Then you can use the rump, back up method to get it up. Just don't drop it twice :D

I've dropped mine three times and the last 2 times I used this method but before I pick it up, I put the bike in gear so it won't roll out from you.

The first time I dropped it I hit a deer and broke my collar bone and a couple of other guys picked it up for me.

Best thing I have read was put it in reverse while down, true that only works if the bike has reverse......
