Java virus threat

Homeland Security should stick to catching bombers, they are woefully behind on Internet and computer threats. Java vulnerabilities have always been known, that's why they release updates on a regular basis. And guess what, they released an update while Homeland Security was making their statement. Old news, nothing to see here.

I read that Java 7 is susceptible but that Java 6 doesn't have the issues(?) We run Java 6 with XP on 3 machines and have not experienced any problems...knock on wood.

This is old news, the update/fix was announced very quickly after the threat was announced, and a bit before Homeland Security made their announcement.

Yes it is old, but certain groups have to continue to show their benefit.
The key they have found since so many things run in a Java console.
Get the latest update 7.10 I believe and then set it up so Java doesn't run in your browser without prompting you and notifying you.

There are lots of sites giving you the intel on how to update and then disable Java in a web browser.

We would be so much further ahead if these n'er do wells that develop the hacks, intrusions, malware, would instead focus all that talent on new uses for this toy we call a computer.

Java is so widely used, it's hard to see how we can be without it. Every time risks were exposed, they were fixed within hours with no real need for scaremongering by any countries government agencies.
