What is the proper way to jump start a 1500? Do you connect the cables to both battery terminals? Can this cause a problem?
Thanks in advance

Either connect to both battery terminals, or connect the positive to the terminal, and the negative to frame.

Either way.

I often use frame as the smaller-than-car-battery terminals can be a challenge for jumper cables.

A little more on how I normally (try) to do it.

1. Both units turned off. Keys off.
2. Connect the positive, on each vehicle, then the negative terminals.
3. Turn on and start the "donor" vehicle. Let it run idle for a few mins. (3-5 mins)
4. Turn on and start the "dead" vehicle.

Assuming engine-start was successful, disconnect negative first, positive second.

also use a jumper box or another battery if possible. if connecting the cables to a vehicle make sure it is not running...

Always make the final connection to the frame of one of the vehicles.
A battery explosion is not pretty and maybe the last thing you ever see.

Yep. Years ago I was fifteen feet away from a lot boy who was attaching jumper cables to jump a car. Next thing was a POW, he had attached the cables backwards and blew the top of the battery off. Lucky for him no acid went in his eyes but we were ready to flush them out.

If you are using a car to jump start the bike, it is HIGHLY advised to not start the car but just use the power that is already in it's battery. Using a running car will be way too many amps for the bike to handle. If it doesn't jump start that way, it ain't going to start. Also if you are using larger car jumper cables, you could clip the negative to the brake pedal. Makes it a lot easier.

When the clubs president HD needed a jump it was me, my GW and MC jumper cables to the rescue. Liguid cooled bike running and charging up his battery with these.

Made my own jumpers for the Wing, look just like the ones from Cyclemax.

Have used them three or four times. And before anyone asks, they were not all Harleys.
