GL1500

HI THERE, OK GUYS I WAS AT MY MECHANIC THIS AM DISCUSSING WHETHER I SHOULD PUT A K+N AIR FILTER ON MY GL1500.
HE TOLD ME NO NOT REALLY, IT WOULD HELP BUT WON'T GET 100% OUT OF FILTER AS YOU SHOULD ALSO CHANGE THE EXHAUST.
HE SAID RIGHT NOW THERE IS 1 PART OXYGEN AND 1 PART FUEL, CHANGING THE K+N FILTER WILL GIVE 2 PARTS OXYGEN AND 1 PART FUEL WHICH MAY BE FELT WHEN STOPPING THE BIKE ( A MINOR BANG OR SOMETHING FROM THE EXHAUST OR SLIGHT OVER-REV).
I WOULD LIKE SOMEONE'S OPINION ON THIS AS I HAVE NEVER READ THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE THE REQUIRED EXHAUST TO GO ALONG WITH THE K+N AIR FILTER FILTER

FURTHERMORE I DISCUSSED WHETHER I SHOULD PUT HIGH PRESSURE BRAKE LINES (TAKE OUT THE RUBBER ONCE AND PUT METAL HOSE ALUMINUM). HE SAID WE WOULD HAVE AN INCREASE IN BRAKEAGE BUT IT WOULD ALTER THE BIKES BRAKE HANDLING, MAY NOT BE TOO SAFE.

I HAVE HAD MANY BIKES IN MY PAST AND AT PRESENT I ALSO HAVE THE APRILIA CAPORNORD 1000 CC WHICH OF COURSE I HAVE MADE ALL THESE MINOR MODIFICATIONS. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS ON THE OTHER BIKES AND WAS SURPRISED TO HEAR THIS FROM THE GOLDWINGS MECHANIC. HE MAY BE RIGHT OR MAYBE HE JUST DOES NT WANT TO WORK OR MAKE MONEY WHO KNOWS....

APPRECIATE ANY INFO FROM ALL

Your mechanic is right. The K&N will allow free breathing at the expense of more particulate matter passing through.

I recommend sticking to the dry paper Honda filter or something equivalent.

The K&N will not alter the fuel/air mixture significantly, it will just allow more of both, which is about 14 parts air and 1 part fuel. It will allow a lot more dust particles to enter and wear out your engine, like Rudy wrote.

I like stainless braided lines, personally.
