eBay does. Wonder if it was an oil systemproblem?

So it would have nothing to do with pitch black, thin as water, oil with 2+ missed changes?(my guess)

Restrictor plates are clear with no obstructions.
Plenty of Castrol coating everything.
Oil light functions correctly.

Will spin the engine with cams removed to see if oil is flowing out of the passage to the rocker assy.

Take an oil pressure test now before you pull the heads.. Record it for after the head job.. Replace the oil and filter after the head swap and re-take the oil pressure test.

If pressure is in specs, your system is o.k. Pull the rocker box covers after running the engine and look for dry areas.. I've had to clear blocks with partially clogged oil passages in the orifice that sits between the head and block surface... It's a very small tube with two "o" rings on it...

I sure like my 1500, but there's no doubt the 1200 looks a lot better head on!
