Campground Information

Our campground will be:

Norfolk Conservation Area
http://www.lprca.on.ca/norfolk.htm

You can not book until after April 30th. All info for the campground is on their website.

I am not sure of the rates, but they are in the neighborhood of $35.00 per night. We can put 2 tents on a site, and we are still waiting for a reply to a request we made for reduced rates. (I'm not very hopefull).

I ask that everyone who is booking or has booked a hotel room or a campsite please PM me so I can put together an attendance list.

Thanks,
Bob

Turkey Point Provincial campground was mentioned in a different thread. They are about the same distance from Simcoe as the Norfolk area and are just a bit pricier.

There is also a campground called The Point, which is about 12 kms from Simcoe, however it is an alternative lifestyle/male only private membership campground. The rates are excellent, but one needs must purchase an annual membership to camp there. Women are only permitted on Family Weekend, and I have no idea when that is.

Turkey Point can be found here:

It still looks like Norfolk Conservation area is the best choice.

You might not want to encourage the Point as its not really what you call a "Family Environment" Seinfeld summed it up pretty well

That's kinda what I was referring to when I said it was an "alternative lifestyle/male only private membership" sorta place. I wish you had been around just prior to my discovering it, so I hadn't discovered it, :wtf:

Thank goodness my discovery was only on the internet. I actually made a reservation and when I got the receipt for 10% down payment, along with all the rules and information that explained why I did NOT wish to honour the reservation, it cost me $12 to cancel... so all be warned. Read ALL the tabs on the site before deciding to reserve a camp site at any and all campgrounds. I did not think myself naive, but I got a lesson.
For those members who feel that the camping fees are somewhat out of line, I agree, however if the fees are going to make or break as to whether you attend the event or not I have decided to open up my two acre property for a somewhat spartan camping experience free or almost depending on how many take advantage of the offer.

My problem is lack of water so if you want showers then maybe talk to a member who is using the motel.

Toilets can be provided with a porta-pottie.... for a price. (this is not Calhoun) depending again on how many decide to camp here.

The distance to Simcoe is about 15 miles a local restaurant is about 3.5 miles.

As with any silver lining there is always a cloud, Drod and Button lady are staying at my place so you will be subject to the joke machine :) although this of course is allayed by the presence of Patty.

Gee Tricky that is nice of you!

Due to the wife having planned out a trip in the car to visit daughter for July 4th I don't expect to make it up there for NASSIR and never got my passport. If I can make a mad dash at last minute and they let me in I may take you up on the offer. I'll know about July 13th probably, or when I get across the border LOL
For the people that are planning to camp, Where are you camping at? I'm going to make reservations soon & would like to know where at?:?
Does anyone know if the First Nations people (PC all the way) are still holding the town of Caledonia hostage, or is Hwy 6 open to the public?

It's all open now Chuck, otherwise you wouldn't be able to drive through and buy cheap cigarettes.

Ya we gave them everything they asked for and more so eventually they took the barricades down.
Any discount on camping at Norfolk Conservation Area,i was going to book on line it shows 40.00 a night plus 10.00 on line fee.
Nope, there is no discount with them. You could probably share a campsite with someone else who is camping.

What Goldwings 4 ever said.

I think there are another three campers, DougW from NY, Galaxyhunter from Illinois and Viking from Ontario. You can ask them if they are into sharing a site.

I haven't camped in decades so the prices come as a bit of a surprise to me. Also when I book a hotel on line I get a discount not a surcharge. ???

The only time I recall seeing reservation surcharges are at government campgrounds.
I am privately camping at a friends place in Port Dover, so I am not able to share a site, sorry. Probably should change my name to local as opposed to camping as I will not be in a campground. We shall see how that works out ;)
I book a site at Norfolk Conservation Area. Campsite #103. This is suppose to be on the lake shore (or as close as one can get). They said that there are a couple of sites still left in the general area if we want to be grouped together. They told me that it was 40.00 a night & didn't say6 anything about a 10.00 surcharge. I made the reservation by phone. There might be a surcharge if you make a reservation online. Which reminds me, She said that you can't get these lakeshore sites online, then need to be phoned in.

I'm leaving early Monday morning (07-15) & according to Mr. Garmin, It's roughly 587 miles, So if I don't have any troubles,:praying: I should be there late Monday afternoon.
the charge for booking on phone is 12.00 they didnt tell me about that when i booked it.10.00 online and 12.00 if you call them.nothing like keeping people working.
