My lovey wife, call sign Biker Babe (I know, real original ain't it) are getting ready to hit the road (figuratively not literately) for two weeks with just what we can pack on our '04 wing. I get one saddle bag and she gets the other, the trunk, and the pack on the trunk rack - guess I'm lucky that she let me have a whole saddle back to myself.

Anyway, we're not sure where we are heading. It all depends on the weather on the morning we leave. Our initial plan is to head toward the mountains in eastern Tennessee and North Carolina. Maybe heading up the Blue Ridge Parkway and on over to the east coast if we have time. We're so excited. This will be the first major trip we've taken on the bike.

If anyone has any suggestions of great places to stay, see, eat, etc. we would certainly appreciate hearing back from you.

Really cool. We're doing something similar, though we have more of a plan than that. We're leaving next week and heading for the outer banks of NC, Atlantic City, and then visit some relatives in the North east. Then down to VIrgina and Tennessee, Atlanta, then out to Nevada. Wife is flying home Sept 19 from Atlanta, I will be home around Nov 1. Probably 10K miles all total.

Enjoy the trip. Personally we like Fontana Village near the Dragon. They have a "Dragon Rider's Club" with discounted rates. Free to join.

Two weeks without a plan is a great way to go. Not trying to get toa certainpoint by the end of the day. Just enjoy the ride. My wife and I usually pick a destination but the trip morphs as we go along. A very fun way to go. Enjoy and ride safe!!!!!!!!:action::action::action:

Somewhere I read: "Young bikers pick a destination and go. Old bikers just pick a direction and go".

Don't forget to take the fork in the road when you come to it. :dude:

What a great opportunity. Have fun and ride safe! :action:

Oh yeah, we'll be expecting a report with pictures.

My father's uncle (my great uncle?) and wife would take a quarter and drive to the first intersection. They would flip the coin and "heads" right, "tails" left their way through a week at a time. They did this year round in their car but I have always liked the idea.

AHHh that's the spirit, no plan. You'll tell us all about it when you get back.

ONE THING TO DO!!!
When you start your trip, take off your watch & give it a toss.

The wife & I just did about the same thing. We left Indianapolis down through eastern TN, then into NC, & up through WV then back home. Beautiful scenery.

Somewhere north of Ashville, NC on a side of the highway overlook.

and I thought I was the only one that did that. Last year went to Montana that way from Virginia, ended up in Washington. Never regretted it. No map, north for a while then west for a while, then north again, ahh the memories.

Hope you saw the New River Gorge, Cass Scenic Railroad, National Observatory, Spruce Knob (highest point), Seneca Rocks, Smoke Hole Caverns and Black Water Falls while in West Virginia. Great riding to these places and they are definitely worth a visit.

Sounds WONDERFUL !!!!!

Wild Wing Lady & I had to cancell out Montrose this year....so instead we're taking a shorter vacation.

We'll be leaving in a few weeks and running north up to Virginia Beach area, up through the Chesapeke Bay Bridge & Tunnel, over to Lancaster, PA for camping and visiting some of the Covered Bridges around Lancaster county as well as touring some of the "AMISH" countryside & villages, check out Gettysburg, and then down Skyline Drive, to camp out.....then on down the Blue Ridge Parkway(camping) , finally pulling out from Pineola, NC and heading for home.

Trip will take about 10 days....we have to have a planned route due to my dad's health (he is 92 yrs old & not doing well)...and have given certain family members our nightly destination phone numbers (for emergency).

We are looking forward to this trip so much !!

Enjoy your trip...ride safe & make lots of memories !!! :waving: :action::)

Baldguy,

I can highly recommend the Blue Ridge Parkway and if time allows, do the Outer Banks and see the light houses along the way. There are plenty of other distractions along the way as well...and as for planning a trip, picking a direction and not worrying about anything else is a great way to go. My bride says it makes the trip interesting:action:
