I've got a US model 1982 GL1100. I'd like to modify it with High Intensity Discharge lighting, but don't know how the bike will react to it.

I've heard the HID lights put out a lot of heat but draw less current for a much brighter light.

Can anyone please advise on this modification?

Those HID bulbs just crisp up the bulb holders. Why not just get a Phillips bulb, the ones that throw out 30% more light without any extra power drain or heat? I forget what they are called but a search on this forum will find them.

After trying many differant combinations of lights:- spots, 100/130w halogen etc.

I finally settled for H4 55/60w XENON bulbs, these seem to throw out a decent amount of light on Dip and Main, lighting up the whole road and out to a good distance. The glare in mist/fog is much reduced and on coming traffic isn't blinded.

Although warmer than standard the headlampbulb dosn't seem to get to hot. I think that the xenon lamp has improved my night time riding experience 100% and make for a far safer ride.

I don't think HID lighting will work toowell on a GL1100. The measly output from teh stator won't allow you to get the most from it.
