ive had problems before ,when i would wash my bike it wouldn't start, and have been looking for the problem. but i went to the biker rally in galveston yesterday, and on the way home i blew a fuse that shut down my headlights , gauges, and starter.

i replaced it and everything was fine. today, i washed it again ,and it wouldn't start until it dried. when it did, i took it for a spin (everthing was fine) but when i killed it my headlights and half of my side lights would not turn off. i had to disconnect the battery. any ideas anyone ........help please, i hate electrical problems

That might be a tough one. Do you have an idea if where most of the water went while you were washing the Wing? there are a lot of exposed connectors on top of the radiator fans and they don't like water.

i had the same problem today. after hand washing the bike, it wouldn't start. i had the same issue once before after a heavy heavy rainstorm at work. i don't have any clues either.

your going to have to spend a day on your wing pulling connectors apart, looking for trapped moisture & corrosion. the water is acting like a jumper cable & connecting power where it normally is off when your key is turned off. I would also un bolt your main fuse panel & look at the underside for the same issues. have a can of WD-40 with you & spray all the connections that you pull apart because it displaces moisture @ 40 parts per million.

Will it not start as in the starter doesn't work or does the starter work and the engine will not fire? I think you may have an ignition switch problem but more info might help.

i normally wash the bike with a garden hose. the bike will spin over but won't fire. as far as the lights , i disconnected the battery so the lights would go out , and when i reconnected it, they were out and everything was fine.

if it spins but won't start I'd say the drain holes for the plug are clogged up. Pull the plug boots out and down int he bottom of each depression where the plugs are is a drain hole, Use a length of coat hanger to clean these out. If water can't drain out of there it conducts your spark energy directly to the block instead of through the spark plugs.

The thing with lights staying on after the key is off is again water getting somewhere it shouldn't. As suggested check all your electrical connections and plugs for moisture.
