Looking at a wing,

Ok I am looking at touring bikes now and I found a 95 20th anniversary wing with 24k miles on it. Has alot of options and chrome on it and comes with a trailer for about 9k. my questions are...

Is this a good price?
Can I use this as a daily rider?
MPG on it?
Is the comfort on these bike as good as everyone says?

reason I am looking is I currently have a Honda VTX and it just doesnt fit the bill for my better half on long distances cause of all the customizing on it I have done so I have it up forsale now. Right now it is between a harley ultra glide and the above wing. I am leaning to the wing being a honda man..

Thanks

I paid 6k for my 95 SE with 64,000 miles in excellent shape. For a similar bike with such low mileage and a trailer I don't think that's unreasonable. Expect 35 to 40 mpg. I would ride mine every day if I could, but I have a company vehicle they make me drive.:D

If your looking for room and comfort,of the 2,I would most definatly go with the Wing for sure, without a doubt......

x2 from me. I went from an 1100 V-Star (very similar to your VTX) to our 'wing. We put 22K on the V* in a couple years. Neither one of us knew how comfortable we would be on a 'wing. I wont be going back to a V-twin for a loooong time. Welcome to the forum BTW.

:waving::waving: Welcome to the World's Greatest Goldwing Site Deadstroke! :waving::waving:

$9000 for a '95 even with a trailer sounds a little high to me, around $8000 would be closer to others I've seen sell. For nine kay you can find 1800s now and then. Any 'Wing in good condition makes a good daily rider. The 1500 should average around 40mpg unless you run above 70mph when it begins to drop. Comfort is hard to say, most find the 'Wing one of the most comfortable motorcycles but it's subjective. For me 600 mile days are easy on my '93. The longevity and reliability of the 1500 is a fact, I've got 128,000 miles on mine and haven't done anything other than normal routine maintenance on it. A fellow that lives in my area has over 360,000 miles on his but he's done some work on it. He replaced a clutch... that's it other than routine maintenance. The water cooled engine and shaft drive are very long lived and reliable. Ya gotta remember we are all Wingmen so there is some bias in any advice you'll get.:cooldevil:

Good Price? Well it may be a little more than what I am willing to pay...even with trailer, but that my be a good price in your area.

Daily Rider? By all means....YES. I ride mine daily (or as much as possible).

MPG? I am getting about 36mpg around town. Alot of stop and go traffic mixed with some 65mph Interstate. Strictly hwy riding (75+) I get about 35mpg.

Comfort? Most comfyWing (had a GL1200 LTD) that we have rode. Easily ride tank to tank.

:waving:Hello and Welcome . I used to ride an 83 Goldwing . The wife would ride 2-3 hrs no problem . We recently purchased a 94 SE . She cant stop saying how nice the queens chair is . This bike now has a bit over 170,000 miles and still turns 38- 42 MPG. I am quite happy with it .

I dont think you mentioned how tall you are . That seems to be the one area where there is a problem . Those at 6ft and over feel cramped for leg room . Not to scare you off . This situationis better with forward pegs for riding . That would be the one thing to check out if your tall .

thanks I am 6ft 2in tall..

Seems a bit high but I suspect it's because the guy has a trailer with it. I would say that 6500 to 7500 would be more in line. Better question is do you need the trailer? If not or you won't use it why buy it? Would he sell seperately and what would be the price then? Just to let you know you can find deals out there from time to time but it takes patience and diligence. I bought my 2002 with 4700 miles on it for 9500.00 and the guy had about 1500.00 in accessories on it. I'd keep looking if I were you.

No, not a good price anymore. That seller is still hung up with the way it was 3 years ago.

Nix on that, 3 years ago, I bought my '94 gl1500se for under $7,000 and I thought that was high at the time.

Today's economy puts the average selling price for a '93 at about 4500-5000, and that is for one that really looks nice. I would offer him $4,000 and tell him take it or leave it.

I thought I may be a little high on the 7500 price but with a trailer I think maybe a bit more than the 4500 for the two.

Likely he's not going to want to split the two up so for the two I'd tell him what I had in my original post. Somewhere in the 7k range. You can always go up but once you make an offer you can't go down.
